Anthem Medicare Supplement Plan G Rates in San Jose

Anthem Plan G is quickly becoming one of the most popular Medicare Supplement plans available.

In the San Jose area Anthem is one of the few companies offering the Innovative Style Plan F plans.  Other companies you may want to compare are:  Anthem, Blue Shield, AetnaMutual of OmahaHealth Net & UnitedHealthcare.

Medicare Supplement members who live in the San Jose area along with Santa Clara County residents enjoy Blue Shield Medicare Supplement Rates that are some of the lowest in the state of California.

One of the new Medicare Supplement plans is the Anthem Innovative Plan F, which includes Vision & Hearing coverage at no additional cost:  Click here

Anthem Plan G:

  • All of your Part A Deductible ($1,556).
  • All of your Part B except the Part B Deductible ($233).
  • All of your Lab tests and diagnostic services.
  • All physician and hospital costs which Medicare does not cover.

In other words you pay only a small annual deductible of $233, then the plan pays 100% just like Plan F.

Plan G covers the difference, or the Excess Charges, if any, between the amount charged by your physician and the Medicare-approved amount. The only difference between Plan G and Plan F is the $223 deductible.

January 1 2020:  “No more Plan F”

All Medicare Plan F policies will no longer be available starting January 1.  New enrollments nationwide will stop after December 31, 2019.  If you have a Plan F before this date, you can keep your Plan F for as long as you like.  But for anyone looking to enroll in a Plan F after January 1, 2020, they will be out of luck.

At that time the most comprehensive Plan will be “G.”  With it’s $233 annual deductible.  There will no longer be any new Medicare Supplement policy enrollments which cover the Medicare Part B deductible.

Birthday Rule A great advantage we have in California, is called the Birthday-Rule  which allows Medicare Supplement policy holders in California the opportunity to change companies each year on the month of their birthday.

No medical questions asked, and the change is guaranteed, regardless of your current or previous health history.  So there is no need to be stuck with a company who no longer has competitive premiums.  The change can take place for 60 days following your birthday.

San Jose Area Hospitals:  Regional Medical Center, Good Samaritan Hospital, O’Connor Hospital, Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, El Camino Hospital (Mt. View), Stanford Hospital (Palo Alto), Valley Health Center VMC downtown).

Why do People buy Medicare Supplement’s?

Two reasons:

  1. Access to care.  Free to choose any doctor or hospital who accept Medicare. That’s about 95% of all doctors.  Plus you are not tied down to a network or Primary Care Physician referring you to a doctor or hospital you do not want to use.
  2. Comprehensive coverage.  You are not going to find a more comprehensive medical policy with the available access to any medicare doctor.

Otherwise, enroll in a HMO and let your primary doctor tell you where to go for care.

Dental:

Anthem offers several very good dental plans for individuals and families.  If you are 65 or older you will want to look into the Anthem Extras Dental plans.  If you are under age 65 the Anthem Dental Prime are the goto plans.

See a Network Dentist and your overall costs are reduced by 25% to 40% right off the top, then the insurance pays 50% to 80% depending on the service provides.

Anthem Extras (ages 65 and up)       Anthem Dental Prime (under age 65)
