Sacramento Medicare Supplement Plans

Sacramento Medicare Supplement Plans & Rates If you are a Sacramento area resident turning 65, you may want to consider adding a Medicare supplement to your original Medicare coverage.

You’ll find that there are several out-of-pocket costs associated with Original Medicare Parts A and B coverage.  Medicare Supplement companies will offer a combination of plans such as; Plan’s F, G and N.  All offer a different level of coverage to help pay the deductibles, percentages and copays which Medicare does not pay for.

Some companies will offer only a couple plans while other offer several to choose from.  Please call me anytime with questions regarding which plan and premium will be right for you.

Sacramento Hospitals … With Sacramento area hospitals like; Sutter, UC Davis, Mercy and Methodist in the Sacramento Metro area, you can choose which hospital, physician or specialist you would like to see.  The You can also switch doctors at anytime.  Simply make an appointment and go, no referrals needed.

Sutter, UC Davis, and Mercy medical groups can be found county wide, although are predominately found in Elk Grove, downtown Sacrament and also in Roseville.

Use this chart to compare benefits among the different Medicare Supplement plans.  You must meet the minimum age requirement of 65 to be eligible or, if you are not yet age 65 but eligible for Medicare.

Anthem     Blue Shield     UnitedHealthcare     Health Net     Aetna

Two-Party Discount Blue Shield, Anthem Blue Cross, Aetna, Blue Shield and Mutual of Omaha all offer a Two-Party discount, which is typically between 7% – 12%.  If you and your spouse or domestic partner are age 65 or older, apply together or at different times but are on the same company/plan, you may be able to save on your combined monthly dues if coverage is issued under one agreement.

Birthday Rule In California, if you are currently enrolled in a Medicare Supplement plan, you can switch to another company with a plan of equal or lesser benefit value during an annual open-enrollment period called the “Birthday Rule.”  You can change companies on the month of your birthday … No health questions asked.  It’s guaranteed, and there are no waiting periods or waivers for pre-existing conditions.  So if another company offers better rates for the same plan, switch, it’s that easy.  Learn more here

If you are new to Medicare or currently have a Medicare Supplement plan be sure to compare other company rates, because there is quite a large range in price.  A particular company may have the lowest rates for a person age 65, but at 70 they could be noncompetitive.  So be sure to look around.

Don’t forget about your Medicare Part D Rx plan

Medicare Part D Rx plans are stand-alone insurance policies meant to help cover your annual prescription costs.  These policies are available to anyone currently on Original Medicare along with a Medicare Supplement policy.  Because Medicare Supplement’s do not cover outpatient Rx costs. Part D plans have an annual open-enrollment period which is the same as Medicare Advantage plans, from October 15 through December 7 for a January 1 effective date.

Regarding doctors and hospitals.  The name of the Medicare Supplement company does not matter when determining if the doctor is part of the network.  There is actually no network you need to concern yourself with.  When checking physicians, specialists and hospitals, all you need to know is if they “accept Medicare.”  The company does not matter!  All claims from physicians and hospitals go directly to Medicare, not to the insurance company.  So with your current physicians, all you need to ask is, “do you accept Medicare.”  That’s it!

Sacramento County has great Rates

The Sacramento Metro region, typically has some of the lowest Medicare Supplement rates of all of California.  Compared to Los Angeles, San Diego and even the Bay area, Sacramento tends to be the most competitive. Check the rates here.
