Anthem “Innovative”
Be sure to compare the new Anthem Medicare Supplement “Innovative” Plan F. This new plan is identical to the traditional plan F but it also includes “hearing” and “vision” benefits at no additional cost. Also the monthly premiums are less then before. Click here for info.
VISION BENEFIT (INCLUDED):
- $25 Exam copay – once every year.
- $25 lens copay – once every year.
- $100 allowance for frames – every 24 months.
- $100 allowance for contact lenses – every 12 months, in lieu of eyeglass lenses.
HEARING BENEFIT (INCLUDED):
- 1 routine hearing exam every 12 months.
- Fitting evaluation for a hearing aid(s).
- $750 allowance toward a hearing device(s) every year.

New to Medicare Discount
If you are new to Medicare and are enrolling into a Medicare Supplement, both Anthem, Blue Shield and Health Net offer a $20 – $30 per month discount for the first year you are on Medicare. That’s quite a savings.
Spouse Discount
Anthem’s “spouse discount” 10% for each policy. If both enroll in an Anthem Medicare Supplement plan, each of your premiums will be discounted 10%.
Don’t forget your Medicare Part D Rx plan
You will need to choose and enroll in a Medicare Part D Rx plan to help with your prescription costs. There are currently 26 Part D plans available for Sunnyvale (Santa Clara County) residents.
The best way to review and compare plans is to enter your medications into the Medicare website, it sorts the results showing the best plans for your medication list through the worst plan for your meds. Medicare Advantage HMO & PPO
If you want to also take a look at the available Medicare Advantage HMO plans in the Sunnyvale area, you can do that here. Anthem, Blue Shield and Aetna all have several HMO’s to choose from. It’s very important to make sure your doctor is contracted with the plan you choose. If not you will need to find a new Primary Care Doctor when you enroll in the Medicare Advantage plan.
Santa Clara County currently only offer HMO Advantage plans. The available PPO Advantage plans are only in a few Southern California Counties.
Free to Choose your Doctors Nationwide
Medicare Supplement Policies, you are able to see any doctor hospital or provider as long as they accept Medicare. You can see doctors and hospitals in other cities, counties and States if you wish, there are no networks to check. If they accept Medicare, by law they must accept the secondary insurance, which in this case is the Medicare Supplement or Medigap plan.
Make Sure you have Medicare Part B
When approaching age 65 or if you are already 65 but are on a group health insurance plan (in which care you do not need to start Medicare). In both cases you will need to check with Social Security to make sure your Medicare Part B coverage is starting when you want it to start. Medicare Part A starts automatically when you turn 65, although Medicare Part B (outpatient coverage) many time does not start when you turn 65 unless you notify Medicare.
You can call Social Security, or enroll in Part B online (Medicare.gov). You will need to have both Medicare Part A and Part B in place and active in order to enroll in any Medicare Supplement, Medicare Advantage or Medicare Part D plan.
