Humboldt County Medicare Supplement Plans

Some of the Medicare Supplement plans and companies to consider if living in Humboldt County are; Anthem, Blue Shield, Health Net, UnitedHealthcare and Aetna.  Plans; F, G and N are by far the most popular, all offering a different level of coverage and price range.

Plan F – If you turned 65 or started Medicare before January 1, 2020 you will have access to any plan F available in Humboldt County.  If you turned 65 on or after January 1, 2020 Plan F is not available to you.  The next best option will be Plan G with only a $198 annual deductible.  Once the small deductible is payed, the plan pays 100% of all medicare approved medical services.

If you are new to medicare, your open enrollment for a medicare supplement last for 6 months once you Medicare Part B starts.  Medicare Advantage plans, the open enrollment is 3 months, along with the Medicare Part D Rx plans.  If you are not new to medicare and wish to change medicare supplement companies, the easiest time is from your birthday and moving forward for 30 days. This is a time when you do not answer any health questions, it is a simple enrollment into the new company.

From Garberville on the south end, to Orick in the north, and everything in between including; Shelter Cove, Eureka, Trinidad, Fortuna, McKinleyville and Arcata.  These cities and areas of Humboldt county will have some of the lowest medicare supplement rates in the state of California.

Remember, with a medicare supplement policy you can see any doctor, specialist or hospital in the U.S. who accepts medicare, that is nearly 95% of all providers nationwide. There are no doctor-networks to fuss with, simply ask if they accept medicare, if they do, you can see them, it’s that simple.

Many Northern California Counties do not have any Medicare Advantage plans available, or are very limited. So a medicare supplement is probably the best option.

If you travel to other states or areas of California, you can use your Medicare Supplement in any area of the U.S.  All you need is your original medicare care (red, white and blue card) and your supplement card.  These are nationwide plans.

Dental – Vision – Hearing:  Some of these plans include Vision and Hearing but no dental.  If you are looking for dental coverage, there are several quality plans to choose from, from companies like Delta, Anthem, Blue Shield and others.  Feel free to contact me for more details regarding the available dental plans in your area.

New to Medicare Discount – If you are new to Medicare, Health Net, Anthem and Blue Shield all offer a $25 – $30 monthly discount for the first 12 months on their Medicare Supplement plan.  With this discount it is tough to beat their prices for the first year.  After the 12 months, the discount rolls off and you are billed the normal rate.  Also, most companies will offer a “spouse discount” when both are enrolled in the same plan.  The spouse discounts range from 5% up to 11%.

Medicare does not cover you outside the U.S. And health insurance often provides no coverage when traveling, working, studying or living abroad. If you or a family member are traveling abroad, please review this info.
